Passport size in pixels
A passport size photo is 3.5 cm wide and 4.5 cm tall (35 × 45 mm). In pixels that is 413 × 531 at 300 DPI, or 276 × 354 at 200 DPI. Pixels = cm ÷ 2.54 × DPI. If your form gives a different DPI, type it in the DPI field and the tool will work out the pixels.
The US uses a different square size of 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm). For a US visa use the US visa photo page.
How to make a passport size photo on your phone
- Stand in front of a plain white or light wall, facing a window. Ask someone to take the photo at your eye level.
- Add the photo to the tool. It is set to 3.5 × 4.5 cm at 300 DPI.
- Zoom so your face, from chin to the top of the hair, fills about 70–80% of the height. Keep both ears visible if your form asks for it.
- If the form has a KB limit, type it in “Maximum size (KB)”. Download the JPG.
Digital photo, not a print sheet
This tool makes a single digital photo to upload. It does not lay out a sheet of 8 or 16 copies for printing. For prints, a photo studio or a print shop will use the same 3.5 × 4.5 cm size.
