Steps to compress a photo to 50 KB
- Add your photo. Any JPG, PNG, WebP or screenshot works.
- “Maximum size (KB)” is already 50. Many forms say “20 KB to 50 KB”, so type 20 in “Minimum size (KB)” if yours does.
- Type the width and height from your notification, for example 200 × 230 pixels.
- Position your face in the frame and download the JPG.
20 KB to 50 KB: the most common rule in India
IBPS PO, IBPS Clerk, IBPS RRB, SBI PO, SBI Clerk and many state bank and insurance exams ask for a photograph of 200 × 230 pixels between 20 KB and 50 KB, and a thumb impression of 240 × 240 pixels in the same KB range. If you are filling one of these forms, use the IBPS & SBI page, which has all four documents ready.
Other forms use 50 KB as an upper limit only. In that case leave the minimum empty and the tool keeps as much quality as it can under 50 KB.
Why your photo is 4 MB and the form wants 50 KB
A modern phone camera takes photos of 12 to 50 megapixels. A form photo is usually under 0.1 megapixels. Most of the KB drop comes from reducing the pixels to the size the form asks for; only a little comes from JPG compression. That is why you should always set the pixel size first: the result will look much better than compressing a full-size photo.
Check a photo you already made
If you have a file from somewhere else and the form still rejects it, use “Already have a file? Check it before you upload” at the end of the tool. It reads the real pixel size, KB size and file type and tells you which rule the file breaks.
Questions
Is 50 KB the same as 0.05 MB?
Roughly. 1 MB is 1,000 KB (or 1,024 KB on some systems), so 50 KB is about 0.05 MB. A form that says “maximum 0.05 MB” will accept a file the tool makes with a 50 KB limit.
Does reducing a photo to 50 KB reduce its quality?
Only as much as needed. At the pixel sizes forms use, 50 KB is enough for a sharp photo, so most results are hard to tell apart from the original.
Can I compress a PNG to 50 KB?
Yes. Add the PNG and the tool saves it as a JPG under 50 KB. Most forms only accept JPG anyway.
