UPSC photo and signature rules
- Photograph: 350 × 350 to 1000 × 1000 pixels, 20 KB to 300 KB, JPG, with your name and the date of the photo printed on it. The tool makes 550 × 550 pixels by default.
- Signature: three signatures one below the other on one sheet, 350 × 350 to 500 × 500 pixels, 20 KB to 100 KB, JPG.
Recent notifications also ask that the photo be recent and taken against a white background, and UPSC takes a live photo during the application to compare with it. Check the notification for your exam.
How to add name and date to your photo
- Add a recent photo. The tool is already set to the UPSC photograph rule.
- Type your name as in your application, and pick the date the photo was taken.
- Zoom so your face fills most of the space above the strip. The name and date are printed inside the size, not added on top of it.
- Download and check the size under the preview before you upload.
The three-signature sheet
Sign three times, one below the other, with a black pen on white paper. Take one photo of all three. Choose “UPSC: Signature” in the tool, keep “Clean up the paper” on and fit all three signatures in the square frame. A file that shows only one signature can be rejected.
Questions
What should the date on a UPSC photo be?
The date on which the photo was taken, not today’s date or your date of birth.
What is the UPSC photo size in KB?
20 KB to 300 KB, with a pixel size between 350 × 350 and 1000 × 1000.
Can I write the name and date by hand?
No. UPSC wants them printed on the photo. The tool prints them in a clear strip at the bottom.
